Diaspora Dialogue at BunNan BK: Where Culture, Conversation, and Community Meet
BunNan BK’s Fritay Friday meets Celestial Arts Presents™ Diaspora Dialogue
Through Celestial Arts Presents™, I’ve stepped fully into my purpose as a host—uniting culture, music, and community at BunNan BK. Since our inception in 2007, Celestial Arts has been welcomed into venues across New York City, producing experiences that merge art, spirit, and culture. Diaspora Dialogue is the newest chapter of that journey.
At the new BunNan BK location, I experienced a pivotal shift in my journey. Somewhere along the way, I became a new version of myself. Leaning into things I’ve never done before has been the story of my life post-2020. From being a successful writer in New York with nearly 100 published articles for The Knockturnal, to becoming an influencer, walking the runway at Fashion Week
Brooklyn and now stepping fully into my role as a host requested by venues and restaurants across the city it’s been a blessing I’m deeply grateful for. Hard work and faith got me here.
I also remember a time when, as talented as I was, I had to pay just to perform at certain industry showcases. I’d end up number 25 on a 40-person lineup, and by the time I touched the stage, some of my guests had already left to get to work early. Others thugged it out with me, but the whole energy was off. Winners were often already preselected, and real artist development was fading away.
Looking back, I see how God used those negative experiences to shape me. They gave me perspective on what not to replicate, and they taught me gratitude. Now the tables have turned. When I go out, it’s not about chasing slots on a list—it’s about activations with businesses, partnerships built on trust, and real platforms for artists and community. That same trust I honor in real estate with fiduciary responsibility is the same trust I carry into my creative work. I don’t take this for granted for a single moment.
So when BunNan BK offered me the chance to host Fritay Friday, it was framed as a simple Friday night game event. But I immediately thought: What am I going to do from 6–10 pm? Four hours? Before accepting, I prayed for alignment with the highest and best opportunities.
That’s when God reminded me of who I am: a singer, a writer, a connector who knows other successful Haitian Americans in Brooklyn. In that prayer, the words Diaspora Dialogue dropped into my spirit. I later learned others also use this phrase, but that doesn’t diminish how it came to me. For me, this was not a branding idea it was a download, a spiritual instruction, and an act of obedience to serve a need in my community.
And just like that, the concept was born a live series where I could curate conversations, host podcast-style interviews at the table, and highlight successful Haitian voices while authentic Haitian food is served. Think Drink Champs reimagined, rooted in Haitian culture, diaspora stories, and community connection.
The heart of the night also beats through the food. BunNan BK’s Fritay Platter brought it all together
overflowing with griot (fried pork), tassot (fried goat), bannann peze (crispy twice-fried plantains), akra (malanga fritters), marinad, and always paired with spicy pikliz. It’s more than a meal; it’s a celebration of heritage on a plate, grounding our dialogue in the flavors of home.
The music and performances made the night unforgettable.
Yuri Da God performed original Haitian Kompa, and having him spend time with us truly meant the world. Follow him @YuriDaGod.
Derby Saint Ford, along with Set Squad, showcased his expanding creativity and brought incredible energy to the night. Follow him @DerbySaintFord.
What started as a simple game night has transformed into something much bigger. While “Diaspora Dialogue” may exist elsewhere, the way it came to me was unique through prayer, vision, and purpose. God showed me that my role is to bring people together through culture, food, and conversation, and to elevate Brooklyn with love.
This isn’t just an event; it’s a reflection of obedience to spirit. It’s how I serve
by curating original cultural content, creating platforms for storytelling, and grounding our conversations in Haitian heritage and community connection.
This is the vision God gave me and this is only the beginning. See you Sunday September 29 TH
